2011 US Adult National:Badminton

The US Adult Nationals for badminton took place on April 22nd-April 24th,2011, at Affinity Badminton Club, San Carlos. This event had a total of 107 participants which are all mostly A level players. This morning, after picking up Trang we drove 30 minutes from SF to San Carlos. Arriving before 9, none of the players were there.
The first couple of matches were semifinal mix doubles, and singles. At 11:30, the final matches started and after each match, a small award ceremony was immediately followed.
First was Mix doubles between Halim Haryanto/Eva Lee-Vincent Nguy/Jamie Subandhi. It was a fast match, and in my personal opinion, the team that lost made too many mistakes. Final score was 21-12 and 21-15 won by Halim/Eva.
Second finals match was women singles between Cee Ketpura- Bo Rong. In the beginning Cee was winning at the 11 point interval, but for some reason it seemed as though she was having a lot of pressure and lost that game. During the beginning of the second match with having a winning advantage, Bo was very calm and steady, and had a good control of the game. But Cee fought hard, and with good placement of the birdie won the second match. Third game was played intensely by both of the players because it was anybodies game. The scores were very close through out, but in the end Cee won and she won with pride. All her emotions were shown because she cried of happiness. Scores were 12-21, 21-19,21-17.
Third match was Men singles between Ilian Perez and Wijaya Agusriadi. Much faster and shorter. Ilian won 21-18 21-17.
Fourth match was Women doubles between Grace Pang/Joo Hyun Lee- Eva Lee/ Paula O'banana. Both teams were relatively the same level, and therefore, the whole match was very intensifying. When it comes to women doubles, to me people just don't give as much care or attention to it because in their mind it just isn't as exciting to watch as the men's double. In this match, the old Chinese saying applies." The older ginger is always the spiciest of the bunch", because Grace/Joo won. Scores were 21-14 21-13.
Final match, the most exciting match to be, and what everyone waited the whole day for!. Chandra Kowi/ Halim Haryanto- Howard Bach/ Tony Gunawan. Two BBC coaches verses former Olympians.Started off with some placement shots, and rotating the opponents around. As the game progressed, smashes (what everyone wanted to see the most) came into play. There were numerous rounds of jump-smashes where the other team would lift high for more smashes. And these aren't normal smashes I am talking about. Like Trang said " wow its as fast as a bullet!". Great match, but wasn't a close match. Scores were 21-9 21-13.
Great day considering I got to see many familiar faces and friends. BUT I DIDN'T SEE HIM! Basically waited the whole day for him to show up, but he didn't come. sigh....
